Berlin has attracted a record number of visitors in 2010, with nine million people coming to the German capital, almost double the number a decade ago, the city’s tourism board has said.

Twenty-one years after the fall of the Berlin Wall separating communist East Berlin from capitalist West Berlin, more than 20 million nights in hotel rooms were booked, compared with 11.5 million in 2000.

“No other European city has developed so dynamically over recent years. This puts Berlin among the big winners in city tourism,” mayor Klaus Wowereit said.
