After six national records were broken on the first day of the world short course championships in Dubai, new national limits kept flowing on the second and third days as 11 more new marks were set.

Andrew Chetcuti bettered his own times in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly, registering 23.14 and 24.99 respectively.

Mark Sammut did the 50 backstroke in 28.01, beating his own previous limit, while Andrea Agius improved the 200 breaststroke by finishing in 2:20.93.

The 4x200 freestyle relay team of Neil Agius, Edward Caruana Dingli (he had set a new limit of 1:54.32 on the first day), Andrea Agius and Mark Sammut shattered the previous best of 8:23.62 when they stopped the watches on 7:48.63 yesterday.

In the women’s races, Nikki Muscat followed up her two records on day two, 29.77 in the 50 butterfly and 58.85 in the 100 freestyle, with another national record of 2:22.45 in the 200 backstroke, thus bettering her previous standards in all three events.

Melinda Sue Micallef and Davina Mangion also featured in the Malta records frame, the former with a 1:15.63 in the 100 breaststroke and the latter with a 4:39.21 in the 400 freestyle.

The 4x100 medley relay for women reserved another new limit for Maltese girls. The team of Muscat, Mangion, Micallef and Talisa Pace bettered the 1996 record by 13.23 seconds when they covered the distance in 4:28.67.
