Tony Drago is out of the German Masters after losing his third qualifying round match to England’s Andrew Higginson 5-2 (62-15, 69-36, 94-1, 72-34, 1-71, 4-85, 64-10) in Sheffield, yesterday.
The Maltese veteran, who reached this stage after beating English players Kuldesh Johal (5-4) and Ian McCulloch (walk-over) earlier in the week, found the going tough yesterday as he trailed world no.23 Higginson 4-0 at the end of the opening session.
Drago got back in the reckoning when he took the opening two frames after the interval, hitting a top break of 70.
However, Higginson ended any hopes of a Drago fightback when wrapped up victory by winning the seventh frame and book his place in the main event scheduled for February 2-6 in Berlin.
