Massimo Caruso, 37, was this morning jailed for four years and three months after he pleaded guilty to theft and relapsing.

He was charged with stealing gold jewellery, watches and cash from residences in Iklin and Swieqi, amounting to more than €3,000.

He admitted to handling stolen property and breaching bail conditions.

Although the court took into consideration his early guilty plea, Magistrate Gabriella Vella said she had to note that the accused had committed similar crimes repeatedly. He had also breached bail conditions.
