Malta Industrial Parks Limited today filed a lawsuit against Hal Far Quarries Limited, claiming that the company had not only opened up an illegal access point onto public land, but also proceeded to build an access road over the said public land.

The company said this illegal and abusive action resulted in the frequent passage of trucks, loaded with construction material through Hal Far industrial estate, thereby causing a nuisance to companies operating in the area.

Malta Industrial Parks Limited requested the First Hall of the Civil Court to declare that Hal Far Quarries Limited has no right of access through the area in question and also to order it to block off the access point in question.

The company also replied to a protest by Hal Far Quarries Limited, which on Tuesday accused MIP of unlawfully blocking the access road.

MIP said it was unaccptable for a company which was in flagrant breach of the law 'to attempt to seek protection from the courts'.
