Jim Boyce, the first vice-chairman of the UEFA Youth and Amateur Football Committee, was among the distinguished guests who attended the coaching seminar organised last week by the Pembroke Athleta Nursery at the Radisson Blu Resort St Julians.
In his opening address, Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, the chairman of the Youth FA, focused on the responsibilities of the nursery coaches in guiding the children and youths under their wings.
A presentation by English FA tutor Jamie Edwards, the youth development manager at Hereford United, and his assistant William J. Perkins, ensued. The Hereford United coaches explained the club’s set-up and philosophy on youth football.
The second part of the seminar saw the English coaches preside over a training session with Pembroke Athleta’s Under-13 players at the nursery’s ground.
An additional practice session was held on the eve of the seminar, this time involving the nursery’s Under-10/11 group.
The seminar came to a close with speeches from Boyce, who hailed the Pembroke Athleta Nursery for its valuable work within the society, and Bjorn Vassallo, the chief executive officer of the Malta FA.
In a statement, the committee of the Pembroke nursery thanked all those who contributed to the success of their seminar and the management of the Radisson Blu Resort St Julians.
