Quarry owners protest over 'illegal' wall
The owners of a quarry in Hal Far have filed a judicial protest against Malta Industrial Parks and the Commissioner of Police after a wall was built across a lane leading to the quarry.
Hal-Far Quarries Ltd said a wall was built outsaide a gate by workers acting on instructions of MIP and accompanied by the police, following a claim that what was beyond the gate was governemnt property.
The quarry owners said they and a group of farmers had used the lane for some 20 years.
The owners said the government agency had acted abusively and illegally.
They said they demolished the wall ont he same day it was built and held MIP and the police responsible for damages.

MIP is operating abusively. They have recently started asking for a € 7.00 per sq mt 'Service Charge' from all companies operating from MIP (Govt.) leased factories.
They will now start collecting € MILLIONS for just a few road sweepers! This is just a NEW TAX on INDUSTRY.
Who's bright idea was this?

to all those condemning these people, one thing should be made clear...
if the blocked road is a public thoroughfare, then it cannot be closed off.... if government is doing the same thing as the famous RTO and closing off public roads then it should be held accountable.
Public Roads are just that... Public... and access has to remain. Public roads are defined by Ordinance Survey maps, unless of course their designation is changed by means of a legal notice.
In Malta it seems to be standard practice by a number of people to just decide to close off the roads, just because they are the most regular users. This can be seen in rural areas where farmers decide to close off the lane just because their land is close by and they are the most regular users.
Funnily enough, the latest so called infringement in my opinion is in the Majjistral park whereby the management plan calls for the blocking of all vehicular access within the park designation. This cannot be done since those roads are currently public...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. WHen the courts are abused and the genreal mentality if criminality is accepted then why is anyone surprised that people just do as they like and damn the rest of the country. These people who take what they want, then use the courts to lay claim to their illgotten gains know very well what is accepted here in Malta. They will continually take land, endanger residents, destroy the environment and basically do as they like because everyone knows there is no punishment for wrong doing here

I agree, I find it incredible that such a disfunctional courts/legal system with such obvious flaws in it's operations is not the subject of an enquiry and major overhaul.
Just from the delays point of view this courts/legal system is very obviously in very bad shape. If we add in the lack of transparency, proper documented procedures available for the public to view, proper sentencing guidlines, past corruption (maybe present corruption), as well as the accused rights taking precedence over the victims and publics safety regarding bail - then we have a mickey mouse courts/legal system, which only benefits the lawyers judges and crinimals, at the expense of the victims and general public.
