Malta ‘playing its part’ in climate change

Malta “will continue to play its part” in the battle against climate change despite its limitations, George Pullicino told the Cancun summit last Friday.

Calling to mind Malta’s “record of involvement” in climate change issues, Mr Pullicino said the country was vulnerable to this phenomenon and empathised with the situation of “vulnerable developing countries, especially other small island states”.

He mentioned Malta’s efforts in battling climate change, including the distribution of energy saving bulbs and the incentives on solar energy technologies.

The minister called on the countries to reach agreement “on a balanced set of important decisions that express our serious commitment to avoiding dangerous climate change and reflect our responsibilities towards the most vulnerable and to future generations”.

The Cancun summit, which started on November 29, ended on Saturday morning with a “balanced” framework for a future climate pact.
