This year’s Bay Music Awards closed off on Sunday with Airport Impressions taking home a hat trick.

The yearly awards, which provide a national showcase for emerging artistes, included pyrotechnics and break dancers, with whole dance troupes accompanying the glamorous performances. This year, they were hosted by DJs Drew, Nathan D and Talitha.

The best newcomer award went to Bletchley Park while Kristina Casolani and DJ Ruby took the trophy for the best dance tune/remix with Get Out.

Incumbent best band recipients, Airport Impressions, took home the best band, best song and the presenters’ choice award, while veterans Winter Moods, who swept the floor at the Malta Music Awards a few weeks ago, left the gig empty-handed.

Muxu was voted best solo artist while the Bay Bands Trophy went to Cruz.

Conspicuous by its absence despite being nominated for the best band and best song awards, Scar did not appear at the gig. Frontman Konrad Pulé’s Transport Malta office was bombed two weeks ago.

The awards will be aired on TVM on Christmas Day at 4 p.m. A CD compilation was launched with all the songs of nominees and performers, with proceeds from the sale going to Dar il-Kaptan.
