This has been a promising start to the 2010/11 season for members of the Table Tennis Academy (TTA).

TTA Tibhar, composed of seasoned players Mario Genovese and Edward Baldacchino (head coaches at TTA) and upcoming duo Andrew Gambina and Daniel Vella Fondacaro, are leading the first round of the Premier Division in the Malta Table Tennis Association national league for teams.

TTA players have also featured prominently in the opening two ranking tournaments of the tennis association.

Genovese was runner-up in the first event, going on to win the second tournament in a nail-biting final against Baldacchino. Marcus Portelli was runner-up in the plate event in one of the ranking tournaments.

In the junior MTTA tournaments this season, TTA players again claimed top honours.

Andrea Portelli won the U-15 title on two occasions and Ryan Tabone was the top player in the U-18 plate events.

Therese Genovese won the U-15 event for girls and Andrew Gambina was runner-up on two occasions in the U-18 competition.

Other notable results were obtained by Dylan Zammit, Jacob Dimech and Matteo Mizzi in their respective categories.

The Table Tennis Academy will be holding its annual awards night on December 29.
