Kenneth Gafa, 38 of Marsa, is expected to be arraigned in court tomorrow, accused of the murder of his former partner Christina Sammut, 40.

Ms Sammut, who was the mother of a 15-year-old girl, was shot dead near Mgarr yesterday evening, She suffered two gunshot wounds to her neck while waiting in a parked van.

The shots were fired from another car. Ms Sammut died just after an hour of being admitted to hospital.

Mr Gafa, a horse jockey, turned himself in at Hamrun police station soon after the shooting.

The police are understood to be questioning another man who they suspect had accompanied Mr Gafa' in the car.

The shooting happened at about 5.30 p.m. in Temi Zammit Street, where there is a wide crossroad.

Ms Sammut had stopped her van, a Citroen Berlingo, by the side, near a children’s playground when she was shot.

DAUGHTER'S MESSAGE

Ms Sammut's daughter Caricia this evening posted a message to her mother. It read:

Last Christmas ♥ I love you mum forever xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx i miss you so much..i wish i still could hug you and feel your warmth.. :( im soo sad mama without you, you left me now i just cant feel anything..the world is on my shoulders ...i miss you soo much xx
