Pulse wins Junior College election
The left-leaning Pulse students' organisation said today that it had won the student council election at the Junior College.
It said it won the election for the fourth time in a row, with a 52% majority. The election were held yesterday.
Pulse said the students had voted for continuity and experience. They had voted for a credible organisation that truly has the students’ interests at heart.
Pulse said it was still willing to resume talks for a more representative electoral system at both Junior College and the University level.
Had SDM agreed with the mixed-member-proportionality system, today it would have representatives on the council, Pulse observed.

Unfortunately the current method of voting system has been in use for decades now and exists in several other movements, better known as the block vote system.
When leftist movements in the student field existed such as the GH.S.S.U. and the S.H.P.U. they used to be called "Mintoffians". What about the S.D.M.

"Pulse said the students had voted for continuity and experience."
Come 2013 we should also vote with the same idea in mind.

Completely agree with Carlos Borg . If I was the principle I would ban Pulse aka FZLjc and SDM aka MZPNjc from contesting these elections and instead let independent students form the council as is done in St.Aloy ,De La Salle and Higher , It is ridiculous that at a young age students are already learning how to imitate the fools we have in Valletta who only care about votes . KSJC is supposed to be a united pressure group which safeguard jc student's right not a mini-government !
Pulse's idea of PR is very idealistic and whilst being the best option , it will sadly only make the situation even worse .... what a pity :(

Indeed here are some serious points to ponder posed by Pulse. Let's reword the question -
How about we revert the situation back to where it was pre-Pulse and SDM, when individuals were elected to these students council and not 'parties'? All committees are elected in this manner and I don't see why the KSJC and KSU should not be like that.
The creation of SDM and Pulse was a big mistake to start with, which politicised the two councils. In my days (that's not half a century ago by the way), students councils were just that - student councils. Students should be elected to a council on their own merit - fullstop.
You know what - back then, student councils used to achieve much more that they do nowadays!

First of all a huge congratulations to all the elected Pulse candidates; I'm sure that they worked very hard in order to get elected. Congratulations also go to the SDM candidates who I'm sure tried their best do as all candidates, elected or not do.
May I observe however that Pulse are giving SDM the biggest vote of credibility possible. How so? Pulse are yet again banging their fists on the table for mixed member proportionality yet SDM despite the system clearly benefitting it in terms of KSJC which it has now lost for four times in a row, is sticking to its principles and beliefs.
SDM may have perhaps lost the electoral battle yesterday but they are by far and large beating Pulse in terms of the battle on sticking to one's beliefs and doing what one believes is right as opposed to cheap political maneuvers.

What beliefs ? do you consider the most undemocratic (in sens of representation) concil representation a belief ? If so SDM can beleive and value their thinking because definetly Pulse would not give away a democratic system for the sake of one's thinking. Pulse are currenlty proposing a system that itself will not benefit neither SDM will benefit but students who want to see student politics in a more democratic and proportinate way.
With regards to this pathetic statement -- "Pulse are yet again banging their fists on the table" i will let other readers to really decide which organization is banging its fists.
with regards to this statement -- "cheap political maneuvers." are you calling all other important institutions cheap because they have democratic representation ? imagine the National Parliament having 65 seats from the Nationalist Party.
As stated in the Press Release, the proportionate representation proposed by Pulse is still on the table and all other organisations should give credit to Pulse since for the first time a student organization want democratic representation in student affairs.

Due to the meaningless KSJC elections, students are consuming more alcahol, creating more tension among themselves, make fun of each other by lowering their IQ and smile/ cry for a cause that does not exist !

"Had SDM agreed with the mixed-member-proportionality system, today it would have representatives on the council.." SDM would have had 3 members on the KSJC council ... Pulse's current call for a change in the electoral system, would by far have a more represented and democratic councils both in Junior College and University of Malta.
Well done to Pulse for their hardworking past 4 years.
