Czech MPs have agreed to have their salaries cut by 5% until 2014 as part of government austerity measures.

They voted 147-1 in favour of the cut, which also removes a right to free public transport.

The measure affects the president, government ministers and lawmakers in both houses of Parliament.

The bill, however, still needs to be approved by the upper house, the Senate, which is controlled by the left-wing opposition.
