Dear Henry, there’s a hole in the bucket. Liza replied, then mend it. Both Liza and Henry tried but did not succeed. It appears the Paceville administrative committee is in the same situation.
That the committee inherited a multitude of problems from the local council, which never gave time to Paceville, is a fact. Pacevillians thought the administrative committee would roll up their sleeves and get going. Perhaps they are drawing up an agenda of priorities; perhaps they are being held back by the local council, which seems to me to be the most likely. I know the members of the committee and in truth I am finding it very difficult to understand what is causing this.
It now appears the local council is passing through a tough time with meetings being cancelled due to lack of a quorum and other unclear matters.
But, and there is always a but, why should the administrative committee be involved in such matters. Has it received any funds? Has it drawn up an agenda?
It appears to me very little or no progress has been made on law and order and this when there are no foreign students. Readers will recall the strong language used by a number of Sliema and Swieqi residents (October 14) which included “scam, scourge, deportation, Spanish Armada,” etc. when referring to Spanish students. Pacevillians continue to receive the “domestic” visitors which, in my opinion, cause much more inconvenience than the students.
Meanwhile, Paceville is still without a public convenience after a lapse of eight months. Paceville is still without a bench at the St Georges Road bus stop after it disappeared over three years ago.
Most, if not all the traffic signs have been vandalised except for the filthy and misleading yellow background sign indicating “entrance to Paceville centre” which can be seen at the intersection of the St Andrew’s and St George’s roads. This sign is intended for traffic and not pedestrians. Whoever is responsible for this take it down please for it has caused enough discomfort, especially for first-time tourists who arrive by bus.
Clearly, after so many years of total inefficiency and abandon by the local council there is much more to say about Paceville. This includes road paint, noisy cars and motor cycles, pavements etc.
May I suggest the administrative committee arrange for a meeting of Pacevillians and inform them of what exactly is happening. Enough time has passed since they were elected and residents are asking, with good reason, when can we expect to see some improvement.
