As many as nine per cent of holidaymakers have had their home burgled while they were away, according to a poll.
Of those who had suffered at the hands of thieves, 27 per cent admitted they had not left their house adequately secured, the survey by travel agent www.sunshine.co.uk found.
More than four in five of those polled said they had not bothered to ask a friend or relative to keep an eye on their house while they were on holiday.
