Card company files protest against ministry, Malta Enterprise
A plastic cards manufacturer has filed a judicial protest against the Ministry for Gozo and Malta Enterprise, claiming that their failure to honour commitments and promises had made it impossible for it to continue to operate in Gozo.
Bryvarc Limited said that it had been promised a proper electrical supply, a good ferry service and trained workers. However the electrical supply to its factory at Xewkija was such that serious damage had been caused to its machinery. Damage could also have been caused by untrained workers,. Furthermore, inefficiency in the transport service hindered its exports.
The company said that such failures had made it impossible for it to honour its own commitments, particularly to its creditor Bank of Valletta.
The company said that when it sought help from the authorities, it found closed doors and was also served with warrants which made it more difficult for it to operate and even prevented it from supplying ready products to its customers.
The company held the ministry and Malta Enterprise responsible for damages.
Drs Adrian Camilleri, Edward Zammit Lewis and Matthew Bondin signed the protest.

Has Bryvarc Ltd carried out an accurate and a serious feasibilty study before opening business in Gozo? Has said enterprise fully trained its workers before putting them on the job? Has said company evaluated the transport system before embarking on exporting its merchandise? Are the personnel at the head competent business minded ?

If Bryvarc opened its business just weeks before the last election.....then that explains everything. Various promises were made before the election to boost the economy of Gozo and also the moral of the Gozitans; a way how the government won the confidence (at all costs) of the Gozitans was to persuade businesses (with promises of course) shift their business to Gozo..the election is now past ...so who cares...!! Now those businesses are realising that promises were just a propaganda with an expiry date of March 8th 2008. If Bryvarc is patient it might negotiate a better package some months before the next general election. Mela, if it was a serious company it would have installed voltage stabilizers which cost next to nothing and any company worth it's salt would install them even if the supply was regular and voltage stable, as for trained workers ah well I wish my kids would have been born bearing a trade or enough wisdom for life, ferry service? what do they want more?I feel that this company is feeling the pinch and is feeling the pinch and is trying to shift the blame onto someone. Those of you who are waiting for an official reply please wait.
