Local slant to ‘living abroad’ convention
After eight months of painstaking work and careful selection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to their credit, have produced a very well presented fully coloured commemorative photo-booklet of the Third Convention of Maltese Living Abroad held in Valletta between March 15 and 20, 2010. It was sent all over the world to all those who attended.
The 105-page booklet displayed 93 pictures. Featured prominently in 33 photographs of them is Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg, followed by 16 of the President and 13 of the Prime Minister.
Other ministers, parliamentary secretaries, Malta-based speakers and public servants that had taken some part in this convention are properly photographed and duly captioned. The same cannot be said of overseas delegates and keynote speakers. Some were embarrassingly not properly identified, others had their titles mixed up.
We also have a photograph of the organising committee, even though they refused to divulge their names prior to the convention.
Overall, one can say it is a useful souvenir of a convention that was supposed to be focused on the Maltese living abroad.

Dear Lawrence, I understand your frustrations but you have been around long enough not to expect anything different from politicians. It was just another platform to strutt their wares.

Dear Lawrence, it is good to see that someone has taken the time to publicise this item. I would be grateful if I could access this publication on the internet.

Well said, my dear Sir! The President, The Prime Minister, and Foreign Affairs Minister are indeed the most prominent Maltese living abroad, and the cascade of photographs you refer to were inserted to remind us of them lest we forget them as lacking significance. You were quite right to commend the producers for getting their priorities right. Could we residents please have a copy?It would be very useful as an "aide memoire".
