May I remind those who are vociferously urging politicians to withdraw students’ stipends except for those whose parents pass a stringent means test that the latter treasure “dignity” perhaps even more than money. Means testing is correctly identified as “charity”. Wouldn’t it make more sense if they urged the well-to-do to voluntarily renounce the stipends? Dignity is then transformed into a sense of pride.
