Over the last few days we all heard the sad news that the Malta Red Cross suspended the Gozo branch and took all its ambulances and rescue equipment.

I would like to ask the health authorities whether they have taken this situation into account. The Gozo General Hospital has two Fiat emergency ambulances, one of which is used to transport patients from Gozo to Mater Dei on a daily basis. Such patient transport was usually carried out by the Malta Red Cross Gozo Branch ambulances. Therefore, only one Fiat ambulance is used for local emergencies! What will happen if multiple incidents happen at the same time? I don’t think that the VW ambulances are equipped to cater for such emergencies. Who will be held responsible?
