The Malta Air-Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club organised their second airgun competition at the Malta Shooting Sport Federation ranges in Bidnija last weekend.

Eleanor Bezzina chalked up a brilliant score of 552/600 to secure top spot in the overall ‘mixed’ air-pistol event ahead of the second-placed Ray Cacciattolo (541).

Martin Grech (500) was third with Josette Calleja (482) and Emmanuel Grech (477) placing fourth and fifth respectively.

Bezzina was forced to skip the final to attend the MOC Sports Awards on Saturday night where she was rewarded with a deserved bronze award. After the final, the other air-pistol competitors moved up one place while the qualification positions remained unchanged.

In the air-rifle competition, Lawrence Darmanin produced a score of 628.1 (538+90.1) to gain first place. He was followed by Michael Xuereb 600.4 (516 + 84.4) and Austin Vella 536.7 (455 + 81.7) who finished second and third respectively.

Romeo Zuber was fourth with a combined score of 500.5 points.

Meanwhile, William Vella is currently taking part in an intensive training camp in Hungary. Next weekend, Vella will line up against some of the best air-rifle shooters in Europe at the Brno Grand Prix, in the Czech Republic.
