I speak with feeling, as one who was obliged to park in Great Siege Road and as a result listened to the recent Chopin recital at the Manoel Theatre sodden wet from the thighs downwards. There are many reasons for my statement with regard to the need for a car park.

1. Difficulty in parking is a definite deterrent when one considers going to any evening entertainment such as at the Manoel Theatre, St James Cavalier, the Mediterranean Conference Centre and other places that will include the rejuvenated opera house.

2. Businesses such as shops are suffering as the clients prefer to shop outside Valletta where they know they will be able to park.

3 Rejuvenating Valletta is a frequently heard phrase but this is not helped if there is nowhere to park!

Underground tunnels in Valletta, I understand, are very plentiful and are used as conduits for electric cables. These could be rerouted through an underground car park and archaeological advice could be taken as to which tunnels could be sacrificed.

I am sure the majority of readers will agree that parking in Valletta is a serious problem.
