Mosta FC are keen to celebrate their 75th anniversary by clinching promotion to the BOV Premier League.
“This season we are celebrating the club’s 75th anniversary and our aim is to win promotion to the Premier League,” George Galea, the Mosta president, told a news conference at The George Boutique Hotel.
Galea is hopeful that the club committee’s hard work will reap the desired rewards, now that the officials have overcome the difficulties they faced in the first year of their administration.
“This season we have made several new signings to improve the squad with the aim of challenging for honours,” Galea said.
“We are also seeing the benefits of our ground project which was completed recently.”
Emphasising the importance of financial support for a club to achieve success, Galea thanked all those who help Mosta FC, especially Pricemark, their main sponsors.
The Mosta president welcomed Toni Meli and Ramon Zammit who have been appointed general administrator and head coach of the nursery respectively.
Mosta coach Oliver Spiteri spoke about the team’s aspirations. Spiteri said his first season at the club had been a learning curve as his priority was to build a strong squad.
Two players left in the summer to join Premier League clubs but Mosta brought in five new players.
Mosta’s new signings are William Camenzuli, Kenneth Spiteri, Nikola Bogdanovic, Simon Shead and Quincy Bregman. Ryan Deguara returned to the club after a season-long loan with Qormi.
Spiteri said that 60 per cent of the present squad are players who came through Mosta’s youth ranks.
Jeremy Muscat, representing sponsors Pricemark, said his company was honoured to be associated with Mosta, his town of birth.
Joseph Muscat, chairman of the Mosta Tournaments, announced that the club will be organising a One-Day Triangular Tournament at the end of the year in memory of former club president Charles Abela. The Charles Abela Memorial Cup is sponsored by Nectar Ltd.
