While most of Europe is being pummelled by snow and freezing temperatures, Gozo bishop Mario Grech yesterday urged the faithful to pray for rain in sunny Malta.

In a letter to parishes, Mgr Grech said he had heard the concerns of several farmers about the need for rain – and this was having a negative impact on their livelihood.

He also appealed against wastage, warning about the repercussions of those who make use of illegal boreholes.
