Rude Maltapost treatment
One Saturday morning I had been waiting for 25 minutes in a queue at Maltapost’s Mosta branch when all of a sudden a Maltapost officer behind the counter rudely told me to leave because I was accompanied by a dog.
My dog is well trained and was on a leash at all times peacefully sitting next to me, not disturbing other people in the queue.
When I was asked to leave most of the people empathised with me and protested that I had been in the queue for quite some time. Some also offered to hold the dog outside.
I calmly said that I will leave and go home. As soon as I walked out I checked for signs indicating that pets are not allowed; however there are no signs of this nature.
While I object that well-trained pets are not allowed into suchestablishments I am mostly writing this letter to object to the way the Maltapost officer rudely told me to leave. I hope Maltapost invests in appropriate training. I also expect the company to put up the appropriate signs if it does not welcome pets.

Do you all realise what a sad bunch of dog-haters you are? Just read yourselves! Goodness me, give me dogs and cats, anytime, any day and any time, and not these so-called human beings!

What's wrong with having your best friend in your company. Dogs and other pets are harmless, honest, genuine. They don't put bombs, they don't do hold ups, they don't shoot any body and don't offend anyone. If there were no signs and the dog is obedient , you should have refused to leave.

Well said, Mr Lewis. Heaven forbid if each one of us had to look in the mirror and see himself for what he is - we are such an angry and sad lot, really. We have become so intolerant that the Maltese society, along with its political, environmental and economic spheres, is imploding within itself, and the result is far from nice to see. We are looking everywhere for a reason why we are in this state and the Government, on its part, does everything in its power to alienate the people from the real, very real problems that lie underneath. Animals, it seems, is one of the main brunts of our anger, along with illegal immigration - what´s the difference between the two, some of us would disgustingly ask!
Ara x´differenza se naghmillek lilek li nidhol go post publiku bil-kelb fuq cinga, specjalment jekk il-kelb ikun qed igib ruhu ferm ahjar minn ibnek jew bintek!

If you know how some Arab/Religious people feel about dogs,I tell you that you will have a very difficult time taking dogs to public places. Before you invite people from other nations to your home, do find out what they think of dogs.As we are on the subject, we all know that some religions refer to some meats as being impure and not suitable for human consumption, pork or pig is one.The Bible, I believe states clearly that rabbit meat is amongst the impure meats. There are a few interesting concepts about pets in homes and what meat we should eat. As far as cats, snakes, tigers , lions, squirills, hammsters and all other pets including trees and plants, it is a real pity that since city building took over our residencial patterns, we had to persuade ourselves to bring trees and plants in our homes by painting them on the walls and instead of going to forests to see plants and animals, we domesticated them to come over and live in city flats, were humans, being so kind are prepared to take them to walkies twice a day, to walk the city pavements and wait with us in city queues.

Personally, I have so far only experienced an impeccable service from San Gwann PO in the few times I have visited, so kudos to these exemplary employees. On another note, I am sorry that a number of people still have such a negative attitude towards other living creatures. In most European cities, you will find people accompanied by their pets in shops and also restaurants. Let us hope for a change in this type of mentality in our country.

Pets in any establishement that serve food/drink should NOT be allowed on health grounds. Dog licks lower parts of it's body, licks owners hands, owner touches table, chairs, door handles spreading bacteria. Totally unfair on those other patrons without animals with them when they then touch the same door handles, tables, chairs and then their kids.
It's totally irresponsible of pet owners to take them into eating/drinking establishements and also totally against the law, so warning to all such establishment owners.

I love animals but I agree that animals should not be allowed into public places (offices). This should be standard understanding by pet owners like it should be understood that pet owners clean after their pets. On the other hand Maltapost is a government agency so they don't have to follow the law or they think they don't have to. I have seen people taking their pets into restaurants and that is a big NO NO because of health reasons. Taking a pet into a church is another big NO NO but people do it anyway. There is a place for animals but post offices or any office for that matter, churches and restaurants should be off limits for pets and all of us pet owners should be aware of that. So please be kind to your pet. Next time, leave your pet at home. As far as the rest of the complaints about Maltapost, I already explained that. It is a government agency, enough said. For rudeness, try the ID card issuance office, another government agency. Most employees are nice and courteous, but there is always that one knuckle head that thinks he owns the place.

sorry to disappoint you but maltapost is not a government agency, it has been fully privatised since 2008.

Jekk tara xi kelb go restaurant, ghajjat lil-waiter u ghidlu li jekk ma ihehhix il-kelb, int se titlaq u mintix se thallas ghax dak huwa kontra il-ligi skont id-dipartiment tas-sahha.. I also don't like dogs in public places, but having been there for 25 minutes you should have stood your ground. As an aside, can Maltapost explain why do people who want to send a registered letter have to wait behind endless queues of other people paying their cable TV, water and electricity, telephone and other bills when Maltapost is supposedly a post office and not a bill paying agency?
Can we also know why sea mail has been stopped and we have to use only airmail when it costs so much? To give an example, I send a Malta calendar to relatives in Australia and post cost more than 1.5 times the calendar price.
Can we also know why Maltapost offices have been allowed to become a veritable stationery competing with private stationers?

I fully symathise with the writer, if a dog is not allowed, it should state on the door!
Maltapost has a number of employees who could very well with learn the meaning of "Customer Service" .
Last Friday I went to St Paul's Bay branch and when I walked in the place was deserted, no customers in sight and the attendant was nowhere to be seen. I waited for a while and then decided to knock on the counter for attention. After waiting for a little longer, the attendant appeared and instead of apologising for his absesnce, he gave me a filthy look.
One can could understand were he was, but a friendly nod or a hello would have sufficed instead of a dirty look, after all I am only a customer. Maltapost please note!

25mins' wait is worth asking for the officer's supervisor to clarify your right.
I stand to be corrected but you didn't have to leave, since there were no signs or notices.
I don't agree with taking animals into public places, as a small child might provoke the animal but if you were in the right....

I doubt if Maltapost will invest in appropriate training or put up the appropriate signs. Why don't you try and house-train the Maltapost officer? You might find that it will give quicker results.
At my local post office my dog is allowed, as long as I keep her under control and I am responsible for all her actions. I can live easily with that.
I have witnessed 'humans' spittting, urinating and vomiting in our streets during our holy feasts and in Pee .. ville, at times close to our law enforcing officers. It seems we can play blind to all this but hell lets loose if someone swims starkers on a twilit beach.
