Maltese property attracted interest from South African buyers at an international convention hosted by Fine and Country South Africa, in conjunction with ABSA bank, at the V and A Waterfront in Cape Town.

The exhibition took place on the last day of Fine and Country’s four-day convention and showcased an array of local and international properties in the company’s portfolio. International Fine and Country speakers, prominent local business leaders and licensees attended.

Fine and Country South Africa chief executive officer Linda Erasmus said Malta attracted South African buyers for different reasons.

It appeals to those seeking to bolster their European property portfolio and also those wanting to escape to sun-soaked, culturally rich Mediterranean countries.

Malta’s Fine and Country firm was represented by operations director Geoffrey Ciantar, who was accompanied by several prominent local property developers, as well as tax consultant Kevin Catania from Stivala and Stivala. Mr Ciantar said the number of South Africans buying property in Malta has increased significantly over the past 18 months.

Buyers viewed Malta as a bridge between Africa and Europe which boasted a considerably low crime rate and excellent business, leisure and medical facilities.

The Maltese delegation also participated in a property exhibition organised by Fine and Country Constantia office and in a business event hosted by the Stellenbosch office.

Mr Ciantar said the interest in Malta was overwhelming; he was particularly pleased to reach his office’s objective of raising awareness of Malta among the 55 Fine and Country offices in South Africa.

Delegations from some of the South African offices will be visiting the country and others will be organising seminars in their marketplaces.
