Katie Price apologised tonight after she posted a fan’s suggestion on Twitter that she should make up stories about journalists.

The glamour model said she was “mortified” that she had “accidentally” re-tweeted the message, which suggested she should write that News of the World showbusiness editor Dan Wootton has HIV.

Price, also known as Jordan, told Wootton and the Daily Star’s Gemma Wheatley, who was also mentioned in the Twitter posting, she was sorry for her actions.

She wrote: “apoligies (sic) everyone especially (dan and gemma) that RTwas accidental.Be great if they’d admit when they get something wrong but wont happen!”

In a statement, her spokesman said: “Katie Price is mortified that she accidentally re-tweeted a fan’s suggestion that she should make up stories about Dan Wootton and Gemma Wheatley, including that Dan Wootton has HIV.

“Katie immediately apologised to both Dan and Gemma publicly on Twitter for her mistake and repeats that complete apology now.

“Katie is well aware of the devastating impact that HIV has and would never seek to make light of or trivialise such a horrific disease.”

Lisa Power, policy director for Terrence Higgins Trust, said: “Whether or not a person has HIV, it should never be used as a slur.

“People living with HIV have enough public prejudice to contend with, so it’s important that people who are role models try to improve this situation, not perpetuate it.

“We’re glad to see that Katie has since deleted the comment. She has a huge fan base, and we’d love for her to work alongside us to help raise awareness of the issue.”
