Exhibition of traditions past at San Anton Gardens
I was very pleasantly surprised a few weeks ago when, during a visit to San Anton Gardens, I saw the exhibition organised by Traditions Malta. This consisted of a large number of mechanised models featuring old Maltese traditions and trades.
I could see both adults and children looking spellbound at the models exhibited, as great attention was given to even small details. I feel such an exhibition is worth visiting both by schoolchildren and tourists as it gives an insight into what life in Malta was like over a century ago. Well done to Christopher James Cachia, the curator of Traditions Malta.

WHILE JOINING THE CHORUS FOR SUCH A THOUGHTFUL IDEA OF OLD MALTESE TRADITIONS,DURING MY VISIT THE OTHER DAY CHRIS WAS TELLING ME THAT THERE ARE MORE TO BE EXHIBITED LATER ON LIKE,THE ROOF TOP FINISHERS KNOWN AS 'BALLATA' WHICH WAS A JOB CARRIED OUT BY WOMEN AND THE ICE BLOCK SELLER WHAT WE USED TO REFER TO AS 'TAS-SILG'.
WELL DONE TOWARDS A GRAND IDEA.

I fully endorse what has been said. This show is a must, more especially for older ones to bring memories back and younger ones to learn how Malta functioned before the age of 'press button'. Prosit to all concerned.

Yes I fully agree...I was there last year and made it a point to visit...I had throughly enjoyed it especially as I had to whole place to myself...I went as soon as the gardens opened and the schools had opened their gates for the New Year. I will certainly visit again this year...maybe there are some new additions!

I agree with Ms. Fenech. The walk through show is a great effort by Chris Cachia and should be given more publicity. A visit especially by school children will do a lot of good in fostering an appreciation of Maltese traditional crafts many of which are no more. The show should also be included in tourists' itinerary. This permanent show is another fine example of how private enterprise can enhance our culture and I think this kind of undertaking should be well supported by the authorities. Well done Chris and good luck.
