Mqabba PN club shooting - compilation of evidence ends

A court heard today how a man suffered serious leg injuries when he was hit by pellets after shots were fired at Mqabba PN club in December two years ago.

Michael Spiteri, a medical doctor at the hospital emergency ward, said he examined Omar Cucciardi and found that pellets had damaged the nerves of one of his feet. The injury was classified as serious.

Dr Spiteri was the last witness produced by the prosecution in the compilation of evidence against Carmel Saliba, 31, who has been charged with the attempted murder of 20 people who were in the club at the time of the shooting. He is pleading not guilty.

Mr Saliba is also accused of having injured Mr Cucciardi and Sylvana Callus.

The records of the case will now be handed to the Attorney General who will decide whether the case will go for trial and whether it will be before a judge or a magistrate, according to its seriousness.
