A bus plunged off a road into a ravine in Morocco yesterday during heavy rain, killing at least 20 passengers and injuring three others, according to a revised official toll.
The bus carrying workers who had completed their night shift at a local factory was travelling from the town of Bouznika, 40 kilometres south of Rabat, heading towards Casablanca when the accident happened. The official news agency MAP put the number of fatalities at 20, up from 18 as earlier stated by Bouznika member of Parliament Ahmed Zaidi.
Mr Zaidi said most of the victims drowned when the bus fell into the ravine.
Rescue operations were still under way.
Most of the victims were employees of a company who did the night shift and who were travelling to Mohammedia, between the capital Rabat and the port city of Casablanca.
Heavy rain has led to power cuts in much of Casablanca, where schools have been closed for safety reasons.
