Germany’s unemployment rate was seven per cent in November, unchanged from the level in October, with the number of people out of work falling 14,000 to 2.9 million, the labour office said yesterday.

“The labour market is profiting from good economic conditions. Unemployment is falling, employment is rising and demand for workers is increasing,” labour office head Frank-Juergen Weise said in a statement.

Adjusted for seasonal effects, the number of jobless fell by 9,000 from October. Compared to November 2009, unadjusted unemployment fell by 284,000, the office said.

Germany suffered its worst postwar recession in 2009, with output contracting almost five per cent, but Europe’s biggest economy has enjoyed a strong recovery this year thanks to strong demand for its exports.
