The Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi this afternoon had an unscheduled meeting with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddaffi at the end of the third EU Africa summit held in Tripoli.

The meeting came before Dr Gonzi left Tripoli, after attending the final session of the summit, which brought together around 80 leaders from Europe and Africa.

Dr Gonzi said, the two discussed Malta’s role as a voice for the Mediterranean within the EU and on bilateral issues which should be developed in bilateral talks in the coming months.

No further details were given.

The summit agreed on a review of the action plan for African development for 2010 – 2013 which was first agreed in Lisbon three years ago.
