Several articles have appeared recently in The Times and other media concerning the divisive, escalating acrimony that has been festering between the Malta Red Cross and the Gozo branch of the MRC. It is uncertain whether this rift started shortly after last September’s Għarb fireworks incident and the involvement of the Gozo branch in rescue efforts at that scene of devastation.
Without going into the merits of who is in the right and who is failing the Malta Red Cross Society in its stated mission and charter, airing grievances in public is undignified and unworthy of what many in these islands consider a fine, upstanding NGO which has served the community well all these many years.
It is time for both parties to seek out the services of an arbiter: a person of unquestioned integrity, who would make recommendations for reconciliation without bias or prejudice.
