Germany’s Martin Kaymer will finish the season as Europe’s number one golfer after winning the ‘The Race to Dubai’ yesterday.

Kaymer’s feat was confirmed after Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell missed out on a top three finish at the Dubai World Championship in the final round.

The German finished with a round of 72, and while McDowell joined him on six under par in a share of 13th place following a 68, it was Kaymer who finished as European Number One.

In all, Kaymer amassed over €3,300,000 in prize money.

US Open champion McDowell had kept The Race going down to the wire having trailed by over €1,000,000.

Sweden’s Robert Karlsson denied Ian Poulter back-to-back titles on the European Tour when he won the 7.5 million dollar championship after a thrilling play-off battle that stretched to the second extra hole yesterday.
