The fourth 2010 Nestlé Fitness Outstanding Woman master class kicked off at Papilla Hair Studio in Rabat, with hairstylists Mark Stafrace and Mario Borg treating two of our finalists to a complete one-on-one consultation session about which hairstyle best suits their image and their lifestyle and how to maintain it with the least effort possible. While missing the presence of the third finalist restaurant manager and mother of two Melanie Xerri de Caro (who was enjoying a well-deserved family holiday) – homeopath and mother of seven Bernardette Degaetano and company director and mother of two Antoinette Doneo soon got into the spirit of things and before five minutes had passed were asking Mark and Mario all sorts of questions about colours and cuts that they’d like to try.

Mario, who was taking care of Antoinette, explained how with a busy lifestyle such as hers, a classic bob cut was an excellent way to keep styling requirements to a minimum while still looking timelessly elegant. Given the nature of her profession and lifestyle, Mario also agreed with Antoinette’s choice of a more traditional haircut and advised against styles that are overly adventurous and that require a lot of time and effort to keep them looking good.

“Antoinette is lucky because she has a beautiful natural hair colour. However, if she ever feels like experimenting with colour without committing herself to a longterm change, a rinse is always a good idea. Lights can always work wonders to liven up a look, although in Antoinette’s case I would advise very fine layers of colour as opposed to chunky lights as this will fit more with her image.”

Soon it was Bernardette’s turn to submit to Mark’s expert eye. After asking some questions about her preferred colours and her usual schedule, he explained that a short hairstyle really suited her and that she should seriously consider going shorter from the lower back for a more defined style.

“A style that is heavier on the front would really suit Bernardette as it will give her a livelier look. I also feel that she should take the colour a tone or two darker as this particular shade is a bit too harsh and also clashes with the vibrant clothes that are her style. There should only be one focal point colour-wise and for ladies who typically wear nice and bright clothes I always advise hair that is on the darker side.”

The session came to an end with two very excited and happy ladies who couldn’t wait to put Mark’s and Mario’s advice in practice.
