Dortmund restore seven-point lead

Borussia Dortmund re-established their seven-point advantage at the top of the Bundesliga with a 4-1 home victory over bottom side Borussia Monchengladbach.

Marco Reus gave Gladbach the lead in the 33rd minute but Neven Subotic levelled the game in first-half stoppage time.

Shinji Kagawa gave Dortmund a 2-1 advantage in the 52nd minute before goals from Kevin Grosskreutz in the 77th minute and Lucas Barrios in the 88th finished Gladbach off.

Bayern Munich moved into the top five for the first time this season thanks to a comfortable 4-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Two goals from Anatoliy Tymoschuk and further strikes from Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez gave Bayern the win, which only seemed in slight doubt after Theofanis Gekas equalised for the visitors after half an hour.

Gomez said Bayern had to ensure their recent good form continued.

“We know that we are way behind and are not the favourites and that we need the points,” the striker said.

“We cannot watch what Dortmund or Mainz or Hannover or Leverkusen are doing but just worry about getting our points and hope that we can be in a good spot over Christmas.”

Gylfi Thor Sigurdsson’s penalty four minutes into stoppage time secured Hoffenheim a 2-2 draw at home to Bayer Leverkusen.

The visitors were 2-0 ahead after just 10 minutes through Sidney Sam and Arturo Vidal’s penalty. Sejad Salihovic cut the deficit in the 38th minute for Hoffenheim before Sigurdsson’s late heroics.

“Usually if you lead after 93 minutes you want to leave the pitch as the winner. But you have to give Hoffenheim credit for coming back and getting a point,” said Leverkusen coach Jupp Heynckes.

Didier Ya Konan scored one goal and set up two more as Hannover continued their impressive form by beating Freiburg 3-0.

Jan Schlaudraff gave Hannover the lead after 15 minutes before Ya Konan made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute and Mike Hanke finished off Freiburg with his strike in the 89th minute.

Hamburg shared the goals about as Piotr Trochowski, Jonathan Pitroipa, Mladen Petric and Ruud van Nistelrooy scored in the 4-2 defeat of 10-man Stuttgart.

Ciprian Marica levelled at 1-1 and Christian Gentner pulled one back to make it 3-2, but those goals were not enough to earn the Stuttgart a point.

Kaiserslautern brought Schalke back to earth with a bump with a ruthless 5-0 destruction of the European high-fliers.

Back in Bundesliga action after reaching the Champions League knockout stages in midweek, Felix Magath’s side were hapless yesterday as Kaiserslautern seized their opportunity to catch the visitors cold.

Srdjan Lakic scored twice while goals from Martin Amedick, Ivo Ilicevic and Jan Moravek completed a thrilling win for the home side.
