• Always keep the receipts. It is up to you to provide proof of purchase if you want to return goods.

• Check that the goods are in good condition before you wrap them up.

• You cannot normally take things back just because you made a wrong choice or are the wrong size, colour or style. Always check what the shop’s policies in such situations are before you purchase anything.

• If the goods are defective you are legally entitled to a remedy or compensation.

• Always be wary of offers that seem too good to be true.

• Check your consumer rights with the Consumer and Competition Department.
