John Travolta and Kelly Preston have welcomed a baby boy.

A publicist said the couple have named their new son Benjamin.

The boy was born at an undisclosed Florida hospital on Tuesday.

A spokesman said in a statement that the couple and their daughter, Ella Bleu, “are ecstatic and very happy about the newest member of the family”.

The statement said Kelly and baby Benjamin “are healthy and doing beautifully”.

This is the third child for John and Kelly, who married in 1991.

Their eldest child, son Jett, died last year, aged 16. (AFP)

Facebook uncovers female cheats

Around 1,000 Israeli women who tried to avoid military service by pretending to be religious have been caught out through their Facebook accounts.

By using the popular social networking site, the Israeli military has managed to track down the women who lied about being religiously observant, Captain Arye Shalicar said.

One woman was caught out after she posted a photograph in which she is seen eating in a non-kosher restaurant, while others were caught wearing revealing clothing. Other girls accepted invitations to parties on a Friday night – which were sent out as bait by firms of private investigators paid to sniff out the fakers.

Military service is compulsory for Israelis over the age of 18, with men serving three years and women two years but women who sign a declaration saying they eat only kosher food and do not work on the sabbath, are exempt. (AFP)

Spelling blunder

Judging by the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors in the written copy of Michael Gove’s statement to the Commons in the UK, the adviser who typed it out could do with a few hours in a lesson inspired by the Education Secretary.

While Mr Gove wants to introduce marks in GCSEs for accurate spelling and punctuation, this is obviously not widely practised by officials at the Department for Education.

In the first sentence of the 10-page statement handed out to MPs and journalists, Mr Gove introduces the “Coaltion Government’s White Paper on Schools”. (PA)

Ms Waissel’s sister Natalie Davis, speaking on behalf of her immediate family, said they are “completely shocked and devastated”.

The revelations about her grandmother come as another blow for Ms Waissel, who has divided fans’ opinions since her first appearance on the ITV1 talent show. (PA)

High spirit

A Mexican distiller has produced what it hopes will become the world’s most expensive tequila, in a platinum and diamond-studded bottle.

Hacienda La Capilla’s 1.3-litre ceramic bottle has a 5lb layer of platinum and more than 4,000 diamonds totalling 328 carats. The company already holds the Guinness record for the most expensive tequila with a bottle that sold for $225,000 in 1996 but hopes the new one will fetch $3.5 million. (PA)

A bag full... of dough!

Robbers held up the owners of a New York pizzeria and then fled with a bag full of dough – the kind that crusts are made of.

But instead it was full of pizza dough. (PA)
