An argument between two Marsa sisters ended up with one of them receiving a conditional discharge for biting her sibling’s finger.

Rita Zammit, 43, attacked her sister Antonia Debattista on July 3, 2009 in the latest flare up in a long-standing family argument, the court heard. Ms Debattista testified that her sister had tried to attack her while she sat in her Subaru van waiting for someone and tried to get away from her. However, Ms Zammit grabbed her by the throat and, as she fought back, her finger ended up in Ms Zammit’s mouth who bit it, Ms Debattista said.

Ms Zammit did not deny having had a heated argument with her sister but said she was not the person to have started the argument and did not intentionally bite her sister’s finger.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke found her guilty of slightly injuring her sister and conditionally discharged her for a year.

Ms Debattista was placed under a protection order.
