An Attard couple has filed a judicial protest against the chairman of the Malta Resources Authority, complaining that a next door neighbour, Jonathan Camilleri Bowman, had been allowed to install a gas reservoir in his front garden.

They said that court records in a separate case showed that the gas tank had been installed instead of a water reservoir which Mepa had authorised.

Carmelo and Josephine Grech called on the chairman to list what actions had been taken by the Authority to ensure that there was no danger in this residential zone.

Earlier this month, in a separate case instituted by the police against Mr Camilleri Bowman, Police Superintendent Antonello Grech said that the police had taken action because Mr Camilleri Bowman’s permit was for a water reservoir and not a gas tank.

A Mepa official had also told the court that Mepa did not have a policy on such gas tanks.

Mr Camilleri invested €12,000 in the gas tank beneath his front garden to fuel a heating system. He is insisting that he installed the tank after getting the necessary certification from the Malta Resources Authority.

However he has not been able to use the heating system since January when Mepa issued an enforcement notice on grounds he did not have a permit for the tank.
