FinanceMalta was a key sponsor of the Hedge Funds World Africa 2010 conference that took place between November 1 and 4 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Present at this three-day event were directors and managers, key hedge funds, institutional investors and service providers from the top financial institutions in Africa and South Africa. Among the issues discussed at the conference were the investment themes for 2011, the proposed regulation changes and the key debate, “Managed accounts versus fund of funds”.
Bernice Buttigieg, head of administration at FinanceMalta said: “South Africa is the continent’s superpower accounting for 40 per cent of Africa’s industrial output and 25 per cent of GDP. South Africa intends to become the financial hub for the region and therefore it is a market that is worth looking into. FinanceMalta’s sponsorship of the Hedge Funds World Africa 2010 conference follows the organisation’s promotional visit to Cape Town and Durban earlier this year.”
As part of the sponsorship package, FinanceMalta was offered a delegate place. This was awarded to Malta’s consul in Cape Town, Joseph Saliba. His participation in the conference on behalf of FinanceMalta was made in addition to a number of FinanceMalta members.
