Norway airport reopens after suspect bag scare

Authorities reopened the airport at Norway’s second city of Bergen yesterday after the discovery of a suspect bag had triggered a temporary evacuation.

The order to clear the airport was issued at around 6.30 a.m. (0530 GMT) after the suspect bag was discovered after it was checked in for an undisclosed destination.

Police said the bag was later claimed by a ministry of defence employee and the airport was allowed to reopen around 9 a.m.

“He explained that the bag contained an object that looked like explosives and was for use in a training exercise for the military,” Bergen police official Terje Hilland said.
