Rally champion praises Maltese drivers' 'spirit'

1981 World Rally Champion Ari Vatanen said today that what Maltese racers lacked in equipment, they made up for in spirit. Mr Vatanen, who also won the Paris-Dakar rally three times, was in Malta for the Gozo Grand Sprint event, held over the weekend.

Mr Vatanen, who also won the Paris-Dakar rally three times, was in Malta for the Gozo Grand Sprint event, held over the weekend. 82 drivers took part in the event including two drivers from Sciliy and also a retired Scottish rally driver who resides in Gozo.

Mr Vatanen visited Valletta this morning, and was impressed with what he saw. He also had a brief chat with Pierre Vella (see above).
