Inspire’s largest fund-raising initiative of the year, Għinna Ngħinu (Help Us Help), yesterday raised €145,212 to improve the quality of life of persons with disability through its services and programmes. The event started at 2 p.m. and ended at 11 p.m.

The charity telethon, critical to Inspire’s sustainability it being an organisation that depends on voluntary income, included fun and games and plenty of personalities.

The telethon showcased Inspire’s success stories over the years, giving viewers an insight into how the voluntary organisation is enabling people to achieve their full potential, irrespective of the obstacles they have to overcome.

The venue, the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre, in Ta’ Qali, was transformed into a large inflatable obstacle course. Based on the BBC TV programme similar to Italy’s Giochi Senza Frontiere, companies, clubs and organisations formed teams to take part in the entertaining Graham Fisher’s International It’s A Knockout to raise funds for Inspire.

Mr Fisher’s was the first company to take former BBC props on the road, presenting the touring version of It’s A Knockout from the 1970s. It has continually developed new ideas and equipment every year, providing individual inflatables, games and challenges. It has worked with national charities for over 20 years, collecting millions of pounds, raising their profile and the public’s awareness of their cause.

Inspire provides several services, most of which are free or at a minimal charge. The funds raised from the event will go towards its programmes, ensuring they continue making headway in improving the quality of lives of persons with disability.

The event, supported by Vodafone Malta Foundation, was aired live on all the major stations and online.
