Bishop not afraid to proclaim Catholic beliefs (2)
I found the caricature of our spiritual leader Bishop Mario Grech published in The Sunday Times of November 7 deeply offensive, and I am sure the majority of Catholics in this country did too.
Does your paper no longer uphold moral values, as it did in the past? I never expected The Sunday Times to stoop so low , and attack our spritual leader in that manner. This was an insult to your readers.
Our spiritual leaders are there to show us how to carry out Christ’s teachings. Christ’s ‘programme’, unlike that of political parties, never changes.
Nobody is forced to follow it, but then those who do should not be ridiculed or marginalised.
I urge all Maltese and Gozitans who have the Church of Christ at heart not to succumb to the pressures of today’s consumerist, secularised society. Our spiritual leaders should be supported, not ridiculed.

Cartoons are a subtle tool used for cutting the pompous down to size. In this case, particularly judging by the reaction, the cartoonist seems to have managed it.
The cartoon in question was very much to the point, and my dear friend Nalizpelra chose a subtle and gentle way of pointing out that those in high offices should heed the adage "O Lord, help me to keep my big mouth shut until I know what I am saying."
In other words, make sure your brain is in gear before you open your mouth.

In the first place I think the Times is being impartial. As any other fair newspaper it prints the pros and the cons. Then it is up to you to decide which side you are on.
And as for Mr JZ, here you go again " The others will be cast in hell for ever" condemning people who don't agree with you. Joe Zammit you have no right to condemn anybody, that's not your job. The only judge is God and you are not him by any stretch of the imagination. And stop talking about Emperors, that ship sailed a long time ago. Welcome to the year 2010.

The strength of the Catholic Church is in her founder: Jesus Christ. He is eternal and has already guaranteed the survival of his one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church until the end of time. In the meantime the Catholic Church is also in Purgatory and in Heaven. Later on, after the end of the word, the whole Catholic Church will be only in heaven FOR EVER!
Christ and his Catholic Church are not worried in any way about numbers. Those who follow Christ will do so for their own good. The others will be cast in hell for ever, while Christ and his Church will be in eternal bliss.
The Catholic Church was persecuted by the Roman Emperors. The Emperors disappeared and the Catholic Church has taken the very place of these emperors and is still growing strong in holiness and in numbers.
Blessed are those who are faithful to Christ and his Catholic Church because they will be pleasing God and experience the great joy God has reserved for those who love him.

ccording to JZ "Christ and his Catholic Church are not worried in any way about numbers"
Have you forgotten the parable of the lost sheep Joe?
How can Christ and his church be in eternal bliss while over 5/6 of the human population burns in hell for eternity? What kind of love is that? What kind of victory will the church be celebrating knowing that its mission has failed? All this according to your mantras mind you as I'm sure if there was God he would be very sad.

JZ "The Emperors disappeared and the Catholic Church has taken the very place of these emperors"
. Nothing to brag about there Joe. The church took over the wealth and corruption of the Roman empire. It usurped the Roman pagan feast days and worst of all it took over persecution of all those who did not agree with its teachings, burning, torturing and committing mass murder and genocide in Europe and the Americas where whole civilizations were annihilated. Finally it's not true that the church isgrowing in numbers and much less in holiness. Five out of every six persons on Earth are not catholics and are destined to burn eternally in hell according to you...Old habits die hard it seems

I think that we should have an open mentality and view of life. More tolerance is required. We are not the only people who are right.
