A business delegation visit to Libya and Algeria will take place from January 22 to 27, organised by Malta Enterprise to help local entrepreneurs tap into these markets and expand their businesses.

The trip will mark the beginning of Malta Enterprise’s calendar of internationalisation events for 2011, which will be made public in the coming weeks.

Besides business delegations, the events will include specialised fairs and other events aimed at helping local companies to internationalise and develop by growing in foreign markets.

Malta Enterprise is currently receiving applications from business people interested in participating in the delegation, which will focus on sectors such as oil and gas, financial and professional services, ICT, travel and tourism, education and training, construction and building materials, and food and beverages.

Malta and Libya have a long-standing relationship and the country is Malta’s major trading partner in northern Africa, with an annual total of €83.9 million worth of exports from Malta to Libya, notably semiconductors, and €22.7m worth of imports, primarily being oil and its derivative products.

Despite its close proximity, Algeria is still a relatively unexploited market for Malta, with just €0.6 million worth of exports to the north African country and €0.9 million worth of imports to Malta.

Mineral oils and products of their distillation comprise most of the goods exchanged.
