HSBC Malta Foundation has pledged to donate €100,000 to this year’s edition of the TV charity marathon L-Istrina on Boxing Day.

The announcement was made yesterday by President George Abela who chairs the Malta Community Chest Fund, which uses the money raised at the annual charity event to help the needy and worthy causes.

HSBC has been a strong supporter of the Malta Community Chest Fund. A part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility programme, its foundation donated over €200,000 over the past 10 years.

Earlier this year, HSBC Malta Foundation held a triathlon from Għarb to San Anton Palace to help with fundraising also for the Malta Community Chest Fund.

HSBC has also contributed to the Malta Community Chest Fund in aid of Maltese patients receiving treatment in London.

HSBC Malta Foundation chairman, Catherine Gonzi, said: “The HSBC Malta Foundation appreciates the commitment of the Malta Community Chest Fund towards the well-being of the underprivileged in Maltese society.

Although nowadays the Community Chest Fund organises a number of campaigns throughout the year, L-Istrina campaign remains the prime fundraiser.”

Alan Richards, HSBC Malta CEO noted the bank was committed to helping the local community, adding that its ongoing support for L-Istrina reflected HSBC’s belief in the Malta Community Chest Fund and the vital philanthropic role it played in helping the less fortunate in Maltese society.

On Boxing Day, the event will be televised on Malta’s three main TV stations between noon and midnight.
