Free parking in Valletta on December afternoons
People will be able to do their Christmas shopping in Valletta without worrying about being charged for parking in the capital city because the CVA fee has been waived for December afternoons.
The controlled vehicular access (CVA) system will not levy a charge after 3 p.m. next month, the Valletta Business Community Committee announced yesterday. It said it had been informed of the decision during a meeting with Transport Minister Austin Gatt on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the committee raised the concerns of Valletta businesses over the lack of access and parking caused by the city’s regeneration project and both sides agreed the issues required further discussion.

Well said Victor. We never had any other options since we live here. But who cares? Let's hope that for once, there'll be Wardens to seriously make sure that parking rules are abided to.

@ Victor Dimech @ M.Bonello You ask " what about us residents do we have to be home before 3.00 so that we can find a parking place? " I and other residents ask the same question every day. The difference is that you ask if you have to return home before 3.00, in our case we are afraid to leave our home. We know that once out of our home town it will be very difficult for us to find a parking spot. I am sure that even you come to my home town, maybe to shop, to swim to dine or to walk along our promenade which is full of people all year round. You Valletta residents have resident's parking we Sliema residents do not have any. When we asked for it we were called all sorts of names, spoilt, selfish, snobs, egotistic etc.... I ask you , if you , and other Valletta residents ,can come and go whenever you like to Sliema and park for free why should I have to pay to park in Valletta ?

Valletta is facing strong competition even more now with the introduction of even larger shopping malls noticeably in Sliema where the parking problem was planned for.
Today shoppers have a wider choice to choose from and although this measure will help encourage, this is just a stop gap solution.
Shop keepers who have invested deserve better treatment. The present situation is untenable. I am afraid if nothing is done, despite the efforts ( notta bianca etc....) Valletta will soon become a beautiful, business monument city with no character whatsoever.

Can this government do something right for once? First it announces that the park and ride scheme will become chargeable (at a very steep price), then it lets cars park all over the city in the busiest month of the year. This is NOT what people need. Free parking will only encourage people to leave their cars parked in Valletta all day, reducing the availability of temporary parking spaces for shoppers who just need to load their purchases into their cars.
The park and ride scheme was a good idea. That's the one that should be retained, instead of first launching it then breaking its legs.
