Burglars entered the house of an elderly woman while she was at Sunday Mass and made off with valuables and an inheritance of €50,000 in cash, a court heard yesterday.

Bjorn Grima, 25, from Valletta, pleaded not guilty to the theft he is alleged to have carried out with two unknown individuals. He also stands charged with organising a gang to commit a crime and relapsing.

The woman, Maria Muscat, took the witness stand yesterday and said that, on returning to her Birkirkara house from Sunday Mass on October 17, she found it had been burgled.

A sum of €50,000 she had inherited from her brother had been stolen together with jewellery and other items. The footage shows the van approaching the house at 6.30 p.m. and three people walking up to the front door.

However, the faces of the people were unclear, the expert said.

The case continues.

Police Inspectors Joseph Mercieca and Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.

Lawyers Joseph Giglio and Gianella Caruana Curran app-eared for the accused.
