HSBC Malta Foundation has committed €100,000 as a donation for L-Istrina 2010 which takes place on 26 December, President George Abela said today. The HSBC Malta Foundation’s cheque will be presented at the beginning of the event to kick start this major annual fundraiser.

The sponsorship was announced in the presence of the chairman of the HSBC Malta Foundation, Catherine Gonzi, HSBC Malta CEO Alan Richards and board members of the HSBC Malta Foundation at San Anton Palace.

HSBC has been a strong supporter of the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF). Over the years, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, the foundation has sponsored L-Istrina, donating in excess of €200,000 over the last 10years. Earlier this year, HSBC Malta Foundation also organised a triathlon from Għarb, Gozo to San Anton Palace to help with fundraising for the Malta Community Chest Fund. HSBC has also contributed to the Malta Community Chest Fund in aid of Maltese patients receiving treatment in London.

Mrs Gonzi said the HSBC Malta Foundation appreciated the commitment of the Malta Community Chest Fund towards the wellbeing of the underprivileged in Maltese society.

Alan Richards, HSBC CEO said the bank was committed to helping the local community. The Malta Community Chest Fund had a vital philanthropic role in helping the less fortunate in Maltese society.”
