Fgura council appeals for reconsideration of decision to reduce its financial allocation

The Fgura council has appealed to the director of local councils to reconsider his decision to reduce the council’s financial allocation by €49,439.

The director had decided to reduce the allocation because of the irregular procedure used in the resurfacing of Gallu and Wistin Levanzin streets.

The council said that while the director did his duty, one also had to consider other matters, including that the work was calculated and approved by the council’s architect and that it was paid for following the Local Councils Department’s approval. The irregular procedure mentioned had never been approved by the council.

The council said it felt that in the circumstances it was not right to reduce the council’s allocation for 2011 by €49,439 because this would affect the council’s work in the best interest of Fgura residents.

The council appealed for the decision to be reconsidered or for the sum to be reduced to at least be changed to a more realistic one.

@ Darren Marmara - Just to remind you, this is an abstract from the timesofmalta.com website when it was announced that there will be a budget cut.

"The Labour Party has said in a statement that a decision by the Local Councils' Department to reduce the Fgura council's budget by €49,439 vindicated its decisions in the past months and its insistence that serenity needed to be re-established within this council."

So you are now contradicting the same party you appartain to?

You created so much problems for your party already, please stop.

It is not fair that the Fgura residents are penalized for the action/s of the ex-mayor! Same applies to all other local councils.
The government should hold the ex-mayor responsible and seek redress from him.
With €49,439 less to operate, for sure the Fgura LC cannot give the necessary services to the Fgura residents. So what then? will the GonziPN propaganda machine come out with its trumpets blaming the PL led LC that the residents' expectations were not met?
In doing so, the government is showing no respect and sensitivity towards Fgura residents.

..and what did the residents do wrong to have less works done in their locality due to less funds?

I think this must be tackled in a different way. The person/s who did wrong should be penalised..not the council, or worse the residents.

The sad thing is that the residents will be the ones who suffer from these cuts.

The only thing the council has ever done in this locality was to strip away our trees and some patches on the eve of the local council election ... needless to say that by Sunday all the potholes resurfaced!

Or else it will be better if the works indicated in the Streets mentioned by the council will be done by the central Government Mr. Oatmon. The residents of the said street need to have good streets. It was not their fault, it was the fault of the council.

@ Kenneth Zammit - What did the Fgura residents do wrong ? They got elected the wrong people. And, I'm sure that they will do it again !

So in your opinion, because of Marmara's fault, we, the resident have to sufer?

i fully agree with you ... the strange thing i see is that when this news broke approx 6 weeks ago many Fgura residents that sides with PN 'applauded' this decision !

The less money the less the possibility of misappropriation of funds. I agree that the residents would suffer. But do the residence gain from funds that are not used according to go work practice? The third parties would gain from it surely from such misconduct.
